Sanders: Why I Oppose NAFTA
Back from a trip to Mexico, Congressman Bernie Sanders lays out his argument in opposition to the North American Free Trade Agreement, aka NAFTA.

We all agree that Ted Cruz is illogical and politically-driven because he disagrees with 98% of climate change scientists. So shouldn’t we also criticize Bernie for being illogical and politically-driven since 98% of economists agree that NAFTA was a huge net benefit for America?

Stephen, when you say net gain for America are you considering the terrible effects it had on Mexican business? Much of this effect resulted in a surge of undocumented immigration? Undocumented immigration is not the issue, but the fact that Mexicans were forced to leave their homes. Is not a net effect, and is not it a concern of ours, that Mexicans were forced to leave their homes?
NAFTA – Mexico opens its borders to subsidized American corn driving millions of small farmers off the land, freeing them up to work in factories built by multinationals moving south from the U.S. A win-win for Cargill, ADM and GE etc.
NAFTA, has helped boost intraregional trade between Canada, Mexico, and the United States, but has fallen short of generating the jobs and the deeper regional economic integration its advocates promised decades ago. http://www.cfr.org/trade/naftas-economic-impact/p15790
