The western United States went big for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Saturday.
Sanders defeated former secretary of state Hillary Clinton 73 percent to 27 percent in Washington State, where 101 delegates were on the line.
He bested her by similarly large margins in Hawaii, 70 percent to 30 percent, and in Alaska, 82 percent to 18 percent. In those smaller states, the Democratic presidential candidates were competing for 25 and 16 delegates, respectively.
Speaking Saturday in Madison, Wis., Sanders said he was “on a path toward victory.”
“It is hard for anybody to deny that our campaign has the momentum,” he told a large crowd at the University of Wisconsin.
Clinton came into Saturday’s contests leading Sanders 1,223 pledged delegates to 920. Though the senator clearly cut into that 303-delegate advantage, it was not evident Sunday morning by how much.
According to counts by the Associated Press, Sanders picked up a combined 30 delegates in Hawaii and Alaska, while Clinton added just 11. Only a third of Washington’s delegates had been apportioned by Sunday morning — Sanders took at least 25 and Clinton 9 — so a comprehensive delegate count was not available.
Sanders’ wins are likely to provide a burst of energy — and donations — as the campaign heads into a 10-day break from voting. The next state up is Wisconsin, which votes April 5. Two weeks later, New York’s 291 delegates are up for grabs.
But Sanders still has a long road ahead. In order to close Clinton’s pledged-delegate lead, he will have to win the remaining contests by roughly 60 percent. And even if he ties her among elected delegates, superdelegates could still push her over the top. Those unelected party leaders currently favor her 469 to 29, according to the Associated Press.

You would never know. Nothing has been mentioned on any major news program. The Clinton News Network ran Easter stuff instead.
That’s a false statement. The election results have been reported everywhere. Your self-imposed victimhood does not suit you.
Yeah, you’d never know. Only the following media have reported last night’s election results: ABC, CBS, NBC, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, CNN, SF Chronicle, SF Examiner, NPR, VPR, Burlington Free Press, and Seven Days. (Disclaimer: I haven’t checked the Canadian, Mexican, European, or Asian papers.)
But the Williston Observer has NOT issued a special edition on the results. What is the media thinking?!
Generally they have a live special with Breaking News across the top of the screen where they go county by county who won and why followed by the televised victory speech. You saw all of that on any of the listed stations?
Well, I’m waiting for the media to point out that he’s no longer a “just in the mostly white states” winner. Hawaii is only 25% white.
OK, first, this morning you said that “Nothing has been mentioned on any major news program,” and implied that there was some Clinton-based conspiracy by the entire news world to not report on last night’s election results. That was just so clearly wrong. Now you say, well, “generally” “they” have a breaking news special report.
“Generally” they do this? Did they do it in 2008? And whose the “they”?
The basis for your news-suppression conspiracy theory is that “generally” they have breaking news reports and whatever news program you were watching didn’t have one? Really?
Did you also consider that Alaska is 4 times zones away from Eastern Time and Hawaaii is 5? Do you know when the polls closed? And when the races were called?
Please. Stop with the conspiracy nonsense already. Please.
The races in Washington and Alaska were called fairly early during EST. Many news programs run live primary coverage. It’s hard to turn on one of the news channels without seeing live coverage except for last night. Your explanation for this is weak at best.
No, your conspiracy theory is ridiculous. You have no evidence. We’re talking space aliens and Area 51 here. You should check out Reality sometime.
Reductio ad absurdum. I never pointed to a giant conspiracy. You did in the defensiveness of your attempted explanation for why nobody covered the caucuses. Bernie won 3 states in rather convincing fashion and not a single all news entity even broke away from normal programming to mention it. The only thing you can lean on to explain this is Area 51?
EVERY major and minor news organization on the planet covered those election results as one of their lead stories this morning but you still see some big conspiracy not to report them. Get a life. Really.
There is a huge difference between covered and reported. Sorry you can’t see the difference or don’t care to because it lends to your “point.”
