MyWebGrocer, the Winooski-based online shopping and marketing firm, said it has laid off 18 employees in Vermont as part of a company-wide restructuring to respond to “rapid changes” in the market.

The employees were offered severance packages, and the Vermont Department of Labor has been asked to help them find work, according to the company.
“The world of digital grocery is moving faster now than at any time during the last 17 years,” said Barry Clogan, president of retail solutions, in a prepared statement. “In this fast-moving market it is important we align our teams and capabilities to support our customers and evolve our successful e-commerce and media offering.”

The company, which also had layoffs in October 2016, declined further comment.

MyWebGrocer provides online support for grocery companies. It currently employs 315 people in the U.S., Canada, England and Ireland.

California private equity firm HGGC owns MyWebGrocer.

  1. For the record, MyWebGrocer was awarded $453,475 in VEGI business “incentives” in 2009, along with at least $79,223 in training grants from the VT Training Program.

  2. They have definitely had an increase since 2009. I used to work there and there were 200+ hires over the course of 4.5 years. Not all were net new, but the majority of them were. In 2009 they were probably only 40 or so employees. When I left a few years ago it was around 250.

  3. amchoor – VEPC does not report jobs data. I have no doubt that the company grew. The issue is whether the program rewards companies for growth that would have happened without the “incentive.” The program is predicated on the “but for” statement that cannot be independently verified.
