Ann
Tangney Lovald (née Ann Constance Tangney), adventurer, weaver,
fashionista, passed away on February 27, 2025. She was 74 years young
and left behind a legacy of creativity, wit and unforgettable style.
Born
in New York City on September 5, 1950, Ann was the beloved daughter
of Nicholas and Constance Tangney and a loving sister to her four
brothers. As a child at summer camp, she found joy in the campfires,
cabins and nature. It was a love she shared wholeheartedly with her
stepdaughters and grandchildren.
Ann
embraced growing up during the 1960s. She relished the energy of the
era, and she loved telling stories of her youthful escapades in white
go-go boots and a black mod minidress. Fashion wasn’t just a
passing interest — it was a language she spoke fluently. From
shopping trips with her mother to her own exquisite sense of style,
Ann appreciated beauty, fine craftsmanship and a perfectly chosen
accessory.
Ann
later made her mark at Silo Music and Rounder Kids, contributing to
the world of children’s music and making lifelong friends along the
way. It was there that she met Dave, her partner in life and
adventure. Together they created a home filled with laughter and
music. Friends will remember the sledding parties, live music and the
palpable sense of camaraderie that filled every gathering.
Her
love of textiles and fiber arts evolved into a second career as an
acclaimed weaver. What began with crocheting, knitting and sewing
turned into Ann’s Weavery in Waterbury. She later moved the shop to
Camp Meade in Middlesex, where she continued to inspire others with
her talent and welcoming spirit. Ann wove beauty into everything she
touched.
Ann
also had the greenest of thumbs — her gardens were lush, wild and
always in bloom. She brought the same thoughtful, expressive approach
to her travels. Every trip was planned with the care and precision of
someone who knew exactly what she wanted out of life. With Dave by
her side, they explored the Caribbean, Europe and beyond, favoring
places full of beauty and soul — Ireland, Italy, Paris, Nevis and,
most especially, their beloved Anguilla.
Ann
loved animals and was extremely loving to her pets, including many
cats over the years and her dogs Ruby, Jessie and her latest
companion, Miss Penny. She was known affectionately as the “cookie
lady,” giving treats to all good dogs.
Ann
leaves behind her ex-husband, Dave Lovald; stepdaughters, Emily
Lovald Jackson and Corinna Lovald; son-in-law, Phillip Jackson; and
eight adored grandchildren. She is also survived by three of her four
brothers, William Tangney and wife Meg, Thomas Tangney and wife
Evelyn, and Peter Tangney; as well as six nieces and nephews and
their families, all of whom will miss her sharp wit and generous
heart. Ann was predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Constance,
and her beloved brother Robert, whose widow, Wendy, also survives
her.
Ann
lived with elegance, humor, creativity and a bold sense of self. She
will be deeply missed — and joyfully remembered.
The
family will hold a private celebration of life and invite others to
honor Ann in whatever way feels meaningful. Donations can be made to
your local animal shelter or food pantry, two causes that were
especially close to her heart.
In
her memory, please be kind.
