Pursuant to the requirements of Title 19, Chapter 7 of the Vermont Statues Annotated, the Town of Underhill will conduct an examination of the premises on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM. A public hearing will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 6:00 PM to consider whether safety considerations for the traveling public and Town employees warrant ceasing winter maintenance on the northerly +/-1.1-mile portion of Town Highway #2, Mountain Road, a Class 3 highway, which is the portion northerly of the winter parking area. Additionally, the Selectboard will consider the erection of a gate across Town Highway #2 to be located near the northerly end of the winter parking area. All interested parties are hereby notified of the following:
1. An inspection of the premises at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 18, on Town Highway #2, Mountain Road, to be held at the winter parking area located approximately 1.7 miles northeast of the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road. The portion of the Class 3 Town Highway to be considered may be described as follows:
Starting at or near the northern end of the winter parking area, located approximately 1.7 miles up Mountain Road from Pleasant Valley Road which will be the terminus for winter maintenance and the location of a proposed gate to be erected. The highway will not be maintained during the winter months from that point northerly to the terminus of Town Highway #2. The length is approximately 1.1 miles. For the safety of the public, the gate will only be used to prohibit vehicles from accessing the highway during the winter months when the highway will not be maintained.
2. A public hearing on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 6:00 PM will be held at the Underhill Town Office located at 12 Pleasant Valley Road Underhill as well as virtually using the GoToMeeting virtual platform. The purpose of the hearing is to receive testimony from all persons abutting, owning or interested in the matter of winter maintenance of the northerly +/-1.1-mile portion of Town Highway #2 and the erection of a gate, as described above.
Persons wishing to comment, provide testimony or give evidence regarding winter maintenance or the erection of a gate may do so during the hearing, or by filing comments, in writing, prior to the hearing.
If, after examining the premises and hearing from any and all interested persons, the Selectboard judges that based upon safety considerations for the traveling public and Town employees of the Town of Underhill warrants not maintaining this northerly +/-1.1-mile section of Town Highway #2 (Mountain Road) and the erection of a gate thereon, it will be so ordered.
