Some health professionals still make house calls, and that’s good news for some low-income, first-time moms in Vermont. The newly launched Nurse-Family Partnership delivers support and information right to their doors — specifically, regular visits from a nurse up until their child turns 2. The initiative, which has been operating for 30 years at sites throughout the country, launched in Vermont this summer with programs in Franklin, Lamoille, Caledonia, Essex and Orleans counties. The national Nurse-Family Partnership program says data shows it improves prenatal health, increases maternal employment, improves school readiness and lowers instances of abuse and neglect.
