McClintock passed away on December 10, 2016, after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer. To many, she was best known as Jennifer Foxx, program director and radio personality at Star 92.9 FM.
A self-described “hair band,” 8084 have been rocking the Green Mountains since the 1980s, and still perform in their home state approximately once a year. They first met Foxx during their early days while playing a show in Springfield, Mass. Years later, they reconnected with McClintock through her role at the radio station.
“We never thought of her as a fan or anything like that. In the Burlington area, she [was] one of the family,” 8084 guitarist/vocalist Randy Smith told Seven Days in a recent phone conversation.
After McClintock’s passing, the band felt moved to pay homage. Smith and guitarist/vocalist Andre Maquera wrote the paean and recorded it at Maquera’s studio, West Street Digital, in St. Albans. All proceeds generated from the song support a fund in McClintock’s name with the American Cancer Society.
8084 reunite for a headlining show at the Higher Ground Ballroom on Saturday, May 13, during which they plan to perform the new song for the first time.
