Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is on the mend and eager to return to the campaign trail, according to a statement issued Thursday afternoon by his wife, Jane O’Meara Sanders.

“Bernie is up and about,” she said. “Yesterday, he spent much of the day talking with staff about policies, cracking jokes with the nurses and doctors, and speaking with his family on the phone.”

The update came a day after Sanders’ presidential campaign disclosed that doctors had inserted two stents after finding that he had a blocked artery. The campaign canceled scheduled appearances in California, Iowa and elsewhere as he recuperated in a Las Vegas hospital.

On Thursday, Sanders staffers sent signals that the health scare would not force him out of the race. They reconfirmed that he would take part in a debate scheduled for October 15 in Ohio, and they announced that Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz of San Juan, Puerto Rico, a national co-chair of his campaign, would canvass for him this weekend in New Hampshire.

In her statement, O’Meara Sanders said that “doctors are pleased with his progress, and there has been no need for any additional procedures.” She added that her husband would likely be discharged from the Las Vegas-area hospital and take a plane home to Burlington before the end of the weekend.

“He’ll take a few days to rest,” she said, “but he’s ready to get back out there and is looking forward to the October debate.”

  1. Maybe Hillary can loan Bernie the rolling Emergency Room Scooby Van that she needed to get through the last campaign?

  2. Warren had the grace to send a public get well message to Bernie and invite him back onto the campaign trail.

It*s so great to see the Dear Leader*s sycophants respond by mocking her __ a female progressive __ in continuation of their noble tradition of superiority, anger, and, yes, misogyny. Hey, why not just go for the brass ring and call her Pocahontas?

  3. If your comment wasnt so entirely over-broad, and wasnt an already exposed part of a larger strategy to discredit all of Sanders supporters in hope of driving voters from him, I wouldnt suspect the first comment was a choreographed set up providing an opportunity for you to do just that. However, since your comment is such a prolific and overused ploy I have to wonder. Who cant see through these overt Stop Sanders strategies straight from the stop Sanders meetings in NYC? Just one more reason its political integrity and Bernie 2020 for the win on the first ballot

  4. I am happy that my favorite candidate is recouperating from a common procedure. I was dismayed by the corporate media pundits who tried to imply that this was the end to Sanders’ campaign. Not a chance. Bernie will be back, stronger than ever. The record number of his individual donations translates to record number of votes in the primaries and caucuses!

  5. I’m so happy Bernie is doing well. He is a hero of The People! Looking forward to seeing him out there to “inspire the fire” in all of US! We feel the Bern – BERNIE2020

  6. I read that his wife called Hillary and asked her to fill in for ole Bernie at his rallies while he recovers at home. She even gave Hillary pointers on how to yell, make faces and arm and hands movements. Bless her little cotton-pickin heart. As to date Hillary and Jane are hashing over payment updates to be announced.

  7. Jane says Bernie will be back out there?

Hey, if Bernie were to be elected next year he*d be 79 or 80 on Inauguration Day in 2021, with two stents in his heart already and who knows what else between now and then. Which means that by Inauguration Day Jane Sanders would be standing behind him waving his arms and telling her Charlie McCarthy what to say, like Nancy Reagan audibly whispering answers to the befuddled Ronnie during press conferences. I.e., she*d be running the country. If you like the way she ran Burlington College, i.e., into the ground, you*ll love the way Jane runs the country.

  8. WE LOVE YOU BERNIE!!!
    YOU ARE OUR FOUNDATION!!!
WE WILL NOT STOP UNTIL WE HAVE MEDICAL COVERAGE FOR ALL CITIZENS!!!
AND FREE COLLEGE!!! AND EQUALITY FOR ALL!!!
