Just four days before the election, North District candidate Ericka Bundy Redic is dropping out of the race for Burlington City Council and backing her former opponent, Democrat Franklin Paulino.

Bundy Redic, an independent, announced the decision Friday to a single reporter during a press conference at Burlington City Hall. Town Meeting Day is on Tuesday.

“Here is the truth: I am not going to win,” she said.

Paulino, she went on, is the next best candidate for the job. “Franklin and I have the same goals: Create a Burlington where people can thrive and not just survive,” Bundy Redic said. “We disagree on how to get there, but I believe Franklin is a good man who cares about his community.”

Paulino will compete for the council seat against Kienan Christianson, an independent who has received the Progressive endorsement. They’re vying to replace Democrat Dave Hartnett, who decided in January to not seek reelection.

Bundy Redic’s name will remain on the ballot; she said she’d personally reach out to her supporters and would ask them to vote for Paulino instead.

“I’m humbled and honored … that she feels I’m the right person for the job,” Paulino said. He promised to drop off a lawn sign for Bundy Redic’s yard.

Joining Paulino, a political novice, at the press conference were supporters Hartnett, Joan Shannon (D-South District) and Council President Kurt Wright (R-Ward 4). Earlier this week, Mayor Miro Weinberger sent out a release urging New North End residents to support Paulino.

Bundy Redic, a self-described conservative, said she had known she wouldn’t have time to actively campaign. The native Vermonter said she jumped into the race because she “didn’t see [her] views represented on the council.” The race would pave the way for future campaigns, she said.

  1. “Bundy Redic, a self-described conservative, said she had known she wouldn’t have time to campaign. The native Vermonter said she jumped into the race because she ‘didn’t see [her] views represented on the council.'”

    Wait.

    What?

“Self-described conservative?” Bundy Redic said the big-spending Dem candidate “shares her goals” but not how to accomplish them.

    Wait.

    What?

So, like, WTF does that mean?

The answer: It means absolutely nothing.

    Vacuousness on steroids.

Watch your wallets folks – the big spending will continue.

And Wright – the guy who voted for his own salary increase – is “supporting” the next big spender who will succeed Hartnett, the big spender who is mysteriously not seeking re-election.

    Are we having fun yet?

  2. Assumed this was the sexist moron Jafar when I read the title, but no such luck. Make Sexism Great Again, right?

  3. I agree with one she stated in the NPA meeting. Burlington has to grow the grand list and get more properties on the tax roles. She was wrong about a couple things,
    1. Champlain College does pay property tax on what they own. UVM doesn’t pay property tax but they do pay millions to the city in lue of taxes.
    2. Approximately 30% of property in Burlington is nontaxed, not 44% with the city owning the most nontaxed properties.

  4. Hmmm, OK, so, a flash-in-the-pan candidate who claims to be a “conservative” said she was running because there were none of her ilk on the council.

But what exactly IS her ideology?

Her only ideology appears to be the following: announce you are running for public office because the city needs conservatives, whatever that means.

Then, quit the race for no defined reason – without saying that your “conservatism” is really a ruse?

Then the best part: suddenly announce that you are going to be voting for a big-spending Democrat – while also saying you disagree with the his strategy.

Just WTF is this woman talking about?
