By April 1, Snowcap Brewing Company, headquartered in Colchester, will have two new cold-brew coffees on Vermont shelves. The business already sells a high-test cold-brew with beans from Timor-Leste in Southeast Asia; it has a zippy 280 milligrams of caffeine per bottle. Now Snowcap will offer a gentler “nitro” version made with the same beans, plus a mellow-tasting brew from Ethiopia’s Girma Eshetu estate. Beans for all three come from 802 Coffee, the roastery business associated with Montpelier’s Capitol Grounds Café.
According to Adam Marchesseault, who owns the business with Lucas Lundell, they expanded to better target the three kinds of consumers they believe want cold-brew: those who prioritize caffeine, craft products and on-the-go convenience.
Marchesseault grew up in St. Johnsbury; Lundell spent part of his childhood in Brazil. Both University of Vermont grads, the business partners met while Marchesseault was studying economics and Lundell was studying permaculture. Their combined interests lent themselves to a food-based endeavor.
“I have a lifelong love of coffee,” Marchesseault said. “When Lucas and I were about to graduate, I’d discovered cold-brew and fallen in love with it. We starting making it and realized we had a knack for it.”
Consumers can judge for themselves at retailers around the state.
