Winooski-based electro-pop artist Orange Julians recently announced a new album, Option, to be released in April. OJ dropped his first album, Object, last October. The first track offered from the new record is “All Nite | Long Gone.”
The new track reminds us what OJ is all about: retro-soul samples, hyperactive, stuttering beats and sticky hooks. But the man behind the project, Julian DeFelice, tells Seven Days via email that Option treads on some new thematic territory:
“Its themes are more triumphant than the lovesick songs of Object,” writes DeFelice. “This one focuses more on the aftermath of big happenings/conflicts rather than being right in the middle of them.”
He also tells us that the new album is more guitar-heavy than his previous work, and features a strong Giorgio Moroder/Italo disco influence.
Catch Orange Julians on Wednesday, March 15, at Radio Bean in Burlington. Listen to Object on Spotify.
